Svetlo sveta dnes uvidela Linux Standard Base 2.0 - subor globalnych standardov, ktore zarucuju ze Linuxu sa nestane to, ce kedysi Unixu - prilis vela firiem a prilis vela standardov (a teda jednotlive systemy neboli medzi sebou kompatibiline). Zucastnene firmy a distribucie zahrnaju: IBM, Dell, Novell/SuSE Linux, Red Hat, Turbolinux, AMD, Intel, HP, Connectiva, Red Flag and Progeny.
